My name is Jim and I’ve liked technology for as long as I can remember. I’ve had hobbies and formal education in electronics, but software is my real passion and I’ve been working with it for a long time. There once was a time when I pored over QuickBasic manuals (back when manuals had heft), wrote BBS tools and watched the x86 platform evolve. Today I follow and participate in open source software, mainly in the areas of mobile/web/backend technologies.

Blogs are great things to write, regardless of whether anyone reads them. They’re the only diary I’ve ever even semi-regularly kept. I’ve always hosted my own blogs and feel strongly that entrusting your autobiography only to Twitter and/or Facebook is a risky idea.

A number of blogs have accumulated over the years. They’re usually associated with some phase of my (our) life, and I like the idea of putting them in read-only/archive mode when appropriate.

I run an online family tree covering the Kalafut, Walker, Yeap and Tan families, and any in-law relationships. The site is not open to the public, but anyone in the extended family may request an account. You can also email me or get in touch via WhatsApp, Facebook, etc. Be sure to let me know who you are when signing up!

So far the tree has a few hundred people, but even in those records there is a lot of missing data. I’m appreciative of any information you have, especially about your family. The primary goal of the Family Tree site is capturing the current, living family tree. I want to show my kids as much of the extended family as I can, complete with dates, places and photos. Ancestral information is of course interesting too, though to start I’m focused on current and recent generations. I’m happy to include any connection to us, even if quite distant.

Once you’ve logged in, the easiest way to learn the application is to just explore. Try clicking on any of the charts, lists and reports. When you’re viewing a person or family, explore the links out from there. Don’t worry… you can’t break anything!
